Create New ASP Website

Web Site Specification V1.0 7th July 2011 Background We have a simple web based application written in ASP with a MS Access backend which is used for furniture sales. The application was written in about 2005 and it runs on a XP Pro box running IIS 5.1. A few modifications have been done to the code over time but it largely remains the same. It is a simple application insofar as there is no 'merchant side' to it. Users do not purchase the furniture item as such; rather, they are able to see our shipments of furniture from China, see photos of items within those shipments, and 'reserve' them under their login name. The site currently requires a login – we create an account for a user (we use their email address and allocate a password) and so on and so forth. A logged on user can see whether items are available or unavailable (ie. already reserved). If an item is available they can reserve it. We would like to create an anonymous view for the site and make it look like a separate site. Users will not have to log in, and the ‘new site’ will have its own CSS so that it can have a different appearance. The anonymous view would ‘talk’ to the same MS Access backend and use the same images of furniture as the trade site, but have separate scripts. Within this specification I will refer to the current scripts on our trade site as ‘trade scripts’ and as users who logon as ‘trade customers’. Things to quote on. 1. We would like to create an anonymous view for the site. Anonymous users would not have to log in and would see the same information as a trade customer but would not be able to reserve items. Unlike the trade site, the new site would only show furniture items that are available (ie. not reserved). The view will be determined by a query within the Access database. The new site will have to have an independent set of scripts. We plan to run the new site on the same server as the trade site but as a separate site OR in a separate folder. The re-use of code from the trade site to save as much re-coding as possible is welcomed. As far as an anonymous user is concerned, the anonymous view of the site must look like it is a separate site to the trade site, even though it is using the same images and same back-end database. Requirements and notes: • We would like the re-use the code trade scripts as much as possible to reduce cost. To reiterate, the new site needs to have an independent set of scripts to the trade site. • We require a new opening script for the new site to be named anonymous.asp. • The scripts for anonymous users would call their own style sheet (CSS). Nominally this CSS should be named [login to view URL] • The new scripts will reside in their own folder. The path to the images will be mapped using a virtual folder. See image 6 below.
