Use a computer program (ETABS) to analyze a 10-story cast-in-place reinforced concrete building with beams supporting the slab. The structure must have at least 4 panels in each direction with a minimum of 4.5 meters span. All frames are moment resisting
frames.
Design loads:
Superimposed dead load: 2.5 kN/m2
Live load: 3.5 kN/m2
Cladding: choose suitable value.
Wind: Building located in Mohammed Bin Zayed City with 100 mph design wind speed.
Requirements
1. Professional Report should include the step-by-step model documentation indicated below.
• All screen shots for analysis obtained from software must have white background.
2. Computer model with step-by-step presentation documentation for the model building process. The presentation should be fully annotated.
Hardcopy of the professional report must be submitted with CD containing softcopies of 1) project report, 2) presentation, 3) computer model and step-by-step presentation.
Contents of Professional Report
• Cover page including (term and academic year, course code and title, project title, student name and ID)
• Table of Contents
• List of Figures
Notes:
o All figures that appear in the report must be numbered and must have caption:
e.g. Figure 3.4: Bending Moment Diagram for Controlling Load Combination
• List of Tables (if any)
Notes:
o All tables that appear in the report must be number and must have caption:
e.g Table 2.4: Wind Load Parameters (ASCE 7, 2010)
• Introduction
One page description of the project and its objectives.
• Theoretical Background
Five (or more) pages of theoretical background with CAD drawn figures covering on topic such as bond and development length, development of shear equations, behavior of columns, etc.
• Loads and Analysis Results
1 – page description of external design loads and load combinations, followed by 6-page discussion of the structural response for the controlling load combinations.
• Design Results
o Design calculations and cross-section details of two spans of selected beams in one particular floor, preferably near the middle stories of the building. One span is interior and second is exterior, but in the same frame.
o Design calculations and cross-section details of a column in the ground floor.
o Design calculations and cross-section details of one isolated footing.
o Design calculations and cross-section details of one floor slab.
• Summary
• References
Notes:
o References should include as a minimum, the class textbook, ACI 318-11M, ASCE 7 – 2010, and two books from our library. List of references should not include more than two websites.
o All references must be cited within the report.
