The job is to prepare .pdf files for a print-on-demand service. The book to be printed exists as a Word .doc file of 80 pages. Each page contains styled text in text boxes (typically two to six boxes on a page) and colour photographs (typically two to six on a page) imported from .jpg files as graphic objects. The photographs and text boxes are separated: there is no text wrap around photographs. In addition a cover spread is needed, for which there are .jpg photographs of the front and back cover. The .pdf files for the book are to be prepared in two stages. First the Word .doc file must be converted from Word to Adobe InDesign. The photographs must be converted from RGB to CMYK encoding, and any minor adjustments made to layout to preserve text alignment in the text boxes. The resulting InDesign file of 80 pages must be essentially identical in visual appearance to the Word file. Second, the .pdf file for uploading to the print-on-demand service must be generated to conform perfectly to the specifications demanded by the service. In addition, the cover spread must be created using the format file obtained from the service website. This will involve a small editing task to move the barcode from its position on the service's format file to a slightly different position on the back cover. The deliverables for the project are: 1. The InDesign file for the book body of 80 pages, of identical appearance to the supplied Word file. 2. The .pdf file generated from the InDesign file, conforming perfectly to the print-on-demand service requirements. 3. The cover spread in the format supplied by the print-on-demand service, conforming perfectly to the service's requirements. The material supplied will be: A. The Word .doc file of 80 pages. A sample Word file of 8 pages is attached to this request for bids. B. The .jpg photographs that were imported to make the graphic objects in the Word file. C.
