Command-line only application for CentOS 5.5 (x86_64). All dependencies must be supplied. Input formats: MP3 or ogg vorbis Output formats: MP3 Output quality: set by user (variable bit rate encoding must be an option) The purpose of this app is to improve the sound quality of audiobooks, such as the audiobooks on librivox.org. The app must: 1. Remove background static. 2. Remove noise, clicks & pops. 3. Make the voice crisp & smooth 4. Even out the loud and quiet parts of the voice (compress, normalize) 5. Generally improve the quality of the voice to sound nicer to the ear, as much as possible. 6. To the maximum extent possible, make the voice sound like a different person to the original 7. The app includes functionality to speed up or slow down the audio, yet keeping the quality and pitch the same as much as possible. The app must come with a full documentation on how it works. All source code must be annotated with section numbering and referred to in the documentation. This should include a number of flowcharts representing each function of the program, and one representing the main function of the program. Algorithms must have indication to say what they are called, or if they are new inventions by the coder. Other features: 1. An mp3 or ogg vorbis file can be appended to either the beginning or the end of the audiobook. 2. A number of seconds from the beginning or end of the audiobook can be removed (before applying 1.) 3. The output can be in multiple quality/format so 2 or more different qualities can be saved. (E.g. 256kbps mp3 and also 96kbps variable bit-rate mp3.) The app can be run as automated only, or arguments can be supplied to do extra, such as speed-up/slow-down the audio, etc. (increase tempo but not change pitch.) More: The app should try to adjust all men to sound similar and all women to sound similar. It should also try to make a woman sound like a man or vice versa (according to settings), if possible. We need to discuss how this could work, whether it is necessary for the app to be informed whether voice is man or women, etc. Example: some audiobooks have different men and women reading different chapters. If these could all be made to sound like men, and then the voices made to sound similar (at least to an extent.) Then that would be good.
