Anything would be a huge improvement over the current graphics for this game. Im not that hard to please :)
The game is called Microsoft Train Simulator, it was released in 2001and runs DirectX 7 BUT there is a new incarnation of developers who are working on updating this game for free! The website is called [login to view URL], you can go there and download the current development release for free. It is even open source and is written in C#. All of this available from the [login to view URL] site as well.
The bad news? These guys are focusing more on physics and realistic train performance rather than graphics. Thats where you come in.
What can you do? Tweak Direct X shaders? Port the game to another engine? Edit some line of code in the OpenRails code to achieve a more realistic effect? How we achieve this I leave up to you.
I will point out however, the OpenRails software, is an on-going development. So, if you do something to the code and then they update the code, my code will become obsolete since there code is newer and fixes bugs mostly, even with any updated graphics.
Maybe create a separate engine to run the OpenRails code? Something like porting? What are your ideas? Let me know, I pay well and I pay bonus for timely work and I like communication. I will have much work for you in the future if you need any.
Please note you need the Microsoft Train Simulator game installed in order to use the OpenRails program. I stress the open rails program because it is updated and uses four cores and fixes many bugs the original Mircosoft Train Simulator had. Anything goes though, so ask away and the game can be found on Google, just do a search ;)
