A simple battery backup circuit design required for a Power Supply of which I can then accrue parts to build. Will need to sit inside a weatherproof box with the appropriate externally seated plugs or flying leads coming out. It will have an AC input 90-240V, something like an IEC or other common plug feed to bring power into the box. Then Transform to 9 volts 1.5A coming back out of the box into a DC plug (like a laptop one). If the AC goes off I need to keep delivering 9V output, so need a battery backup, eg. Lead acid, would kick in for at least 3 hours, for periods when the electrical source needs to be unplugged, or the power supply moved around. Will need to be conscious of heat buildup inside the box, if it can be designed that way, to minimize modifications to the weatherproof box for heat dissipation, without going to the expense of using high-end di-casting product, if it can be helped. And should be designed to protect from overloading, short circuits, reverse polarity etc. I am not an expert in these terms so forgive my electro term mis-usage.

I have been developing power supplies and inverters for quite long period of time. your project will require a step donn transformer, rectification and then voltage regulation for the AC part. for the DC part is just an inverter with auto changer switch between AC and DC so that at least one source of power is avaiable.

Hi, To actually consider doing this piece of work I need actually discuss your requirements with you thoroughly. This is such that I can understand the constraints you need to work within and if I am able to help you. Here are a few of the questions I need answered. When is the deadline for this project? What options have you already considered? Does this need to work with both 110V and 240V? What type of load are you driving with 9V ( What are you running with it?) and how much current does it consume? What are the dimensions of the enclosure? What is your materials budget?

what you need is an UPS back up circuit, we can use simple supervisor circuit to monitor the 9v output from powers supply and call the battery backup if necessary. Rechargeable battery is preffered and you also need to minimize output ripple and harmonic to make battery life longer. I am an expert power electronics engineer holding a master degree and also working on my PhD. program. Have been in this industry for years and got a lot of hands on experience.
