Typographic syntax is the process of arranging elements into a cohesive whole; the rhythmic and dimensional field in which typographic communication exists. This field consists of positive form (typographic elements) and negative form (the white paper). The human mind possesses the innate ability to organize all stimuli into rational and meaningful wholes. Think of man's desire to create shapes out of the stars in the sky, transforming them into cohesive structures and assigning semantic meanings. Syntax can shift and change the meaning of the information being conveyed. Form communicates. One of our responsibilities as visual communicators is to engage the audience. Always think how to structure the timing and syntax of your information both conceptually and formally. As creative problem solvers we will always be working within a set of parameters. Do not view constraints as limiting — test your creativity and view it as a challenge. All sketches will be contained within a 6.5" square field using a .25 pt rule for the border, centered horizontally and positioned 2.5” up from bottom of the page. Interpret the quote using Futura Bold in 8pt size, you want white space and room to creatively interpret your quote. Additionally, identify five or six words that are more “important” and worthy of “emphasis” and treat accordingly via hierarchy and or italicizing/bolding The quote to be used is as follows: “Leadership means sharing the results of our research and development with the public and expanding the knowledge and understanding of our strategies amongst investors.” As we introduce new ideas, managers and companies into our group, each will be demonstrably the best in its field. “As industry pioneers, we embrace the new and the unconventional.” Recommended words to emphasize are: Leadership, Expanding, Ideas, Knowledge, Embrace, Results The images attached are a project brief in summary and visual examples of the concept working as a calendar design. I am not asking for a calendar design but to consider how the calendar is designed in terms of hierarchy and syntax and use the quote and the important/emphasizing words to similarly make appealing designs. This is a large brief but a very simple project and shouldn’t take much time.
