It is common practice among medical professionals, especially in emergency medicine to take photos of clinical evidence such as ECG strips, X-rays, even photos of patient's injuries, and then to send them to specialist consultants to help demonstrate the case and request their consultation. This is an irresistibly convenient practice, but a bad one, because the images so obtained often contain unique identifiers of the patient and this then represents both a serious violation of patient confidentiality as well as a medico-legal risk. I require an iPhone App that will act as a camera or camera plug-in, but that will Automatically post-process the photos by removing all identifying marks. In the case of ECGs and X-rays, this will involve automatically detecting and masking all text in the image. In the case of a photo of a person, it will entail auto-detecting, and blanking out facial features.
