The goal of this project is to eliminate all types of spam from several large-scale websites. This includes email spam and user-generated content spam appearing on our website. The spam filtering system will be primarily based on open-source software like SpamAssassin, although some proprietary filters will be integrated. The filtering system will be hosted, along with a database server, in a remote location. It will receive input from each of our websites via web services. It will produce output to each of our websites identifying whether the received content is definitely spam, possibly spam, or legitimate. A script on each of our websites will then archive the spam and keep the legitimate content live. In cases where the output is marked as possibly spam, the output remains on a database hosted in the remote location. A software application with a clear user interface will interact with that database and be used by the customer service departments for each of our websites to manually mark these suspicious items as either legitimate content or spam. This is a large and complex project with many opportunities for advancement and great connections. The successful candidate will be working with high-profile entrepreneurs, including the founders of Deremate, iBazaar, and Aucland, as well as a VP of Products at eBay.
