I am hoping to have someone develop a web site **scraper program** for the web site [http://artsalesindex.artinfo.com][1]. I need data on auction sales dating back to the 1980s from this web site and rather than manually clicking through all of the pages, I am hoping a scraper program can download the relevant categories (including artist's name, name of work, year painting was made, date of sale, location of sale, price of sale, height of painting, and width) straight into an **Excel** spread sheet. The search would be done for a list of artists I will provide and will be limited just to paintings or prints.
## Deliverables
[http://artsalesindex.artinfo.com][1]. This takes you to the search page where you type in the artist's name. After typing in the artist's name and choosing it from the drop-down list, you would then click on "exclude qualifiers." Then under "medium," you would click "painting." Everything else would be left blank since I want the results from all of the auction houses and all of the years (it goes back until the 1970s). A series of results pages will then pop up. (Unfortunately, it gives the message that it can only show 1,000 results while certain artists have more sales than this). The information on the results page that I am hoping to import include: artist's name, name of painting, year painting was made, date of sale, location of sale (i.e. Sotheby's New York, Christie's New York...), price of sale (including currency), height of painting, width.
Depending on how much a web crawler/scraper program will cost to develop, I will edit the lists of artists accordingly. The search may be done for a list of artists ranging from 20 to 50.
