Goal: To build a widget or tool that can be embedded into a website's code so that visitors to that site can be tracked by a unique identifier in a common database. The idea is to bill visitors for content. Charges will not be processed in real time but rather prebilled in a larger increment (like on your skype account) and users will work down their balance as they surf across sites which have this widget embedded. We are looking to build a tool that can be used across websites.
As we see it this project is much like a Google Analytics service and
widget for implementing it to client websites.
Clients would come to service website and register their websites.
Then they would receive code snippet (html+javascript) that needs to
be included in every page of their website. Snippet have two
functions: widget for loging in/limiting access and page recognition
tool. Content on the sites which have this tool embedded should be blocked or blurred unless the client logs in.
This project is for building the proof of concept.
Workflow - Visitors arrive at participating site. Dialogue box comes up and users are promoted to sign in with id and password. (if not registered, ask to register) C
1. Once logged in, user visits site as normal, their viewing behavior logged in our database.
2. Each page they view has a particular cost to view. Users start out with a particular balance. As they surf, thir balance in deducted based on the set prices of each page they view.
3. There should be small window or toolbar which shows their current balance and shows their surfing history. (very similar to Skype UI)
2. Users can visit other sites as well and remained logged in. If the site is a participating site (that is, has our code embedded in it) we continue to track their behavior.
