Clearinghouse for Linux work-study projects

Openworld Learning is planning to build a global clearinghouse for online work/study projects and virtual internships. International organizations (nonprofit and for-profit) are expected within this forum to invite individuals and/or teams around the world to undertake specific open source projects, and to sponsor recognitions and awards for those make highly-rated contributions. An early focus of this clearinghouse is expected to be on development of software utilities that can help acclerate adoption of Linux and other open source software solutions. As a first step, we are seeking a contractor to help in defining a highly leveraged set of project opportunities in this area. We would like to engage a contractor who is highly knowledgeable about Windows->Linux migration issues, and especially about the development of drivers that enable Linux to work with common desktop and notebook computer configurations and peripherals. Bids from offshore and onshore providers are welcomed. ## Deliverables Within 14 days of project start, the selected contractor will deliver: - A detailed research summary (8-10 pages) identifying at least 20 missing drivers whose absence today is among the most critical barriers to more widespread migration of systems from Windows to Linux. The list does not need to be definitive, but it should reflect a consensus of expert observers as to inclusion on the priority list and/or provide evidence in each case of the importance of the driver to accelerated Linux adoption. - An estimate in each case of the level of effort (in person days) likely to be required for a competent software developer to develop the driver. - A set of at least 10 polished "mini-specs" (2-3 paragraphs for each project) for the least time-consuming drivers on the priority list, in a format for posting as a work-study/virtual internship project in the online clearinghouse. All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No material copyrighted by others may be included in the report unless properly cited and meeting "fair use" quotation standards under US copyright law, and AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform The report should be delivered as a MS Word or OpenOffice document.
