Chess240 was a C++ programming project given for one of my past classes while in a university computer science program. The course professors provided a skeleton code for a GUI (and image files for a chess board and chess pieces) and also a supression file (for known memory errors during compilation), and the code given would compile (using a makefile) and run on the Linux computers of a department controlled computer lab, and it would render the pieces on the board. However, when I port that same code to other machines with no modifications it won't compile or run. I have tried on other Linux dystros but the same code won't compile or run, and I suspect it is because of the GUI library. What I desire now is a way to have that same code be able to compile and run on any other platform, including another Linux computer, Mac OS X machine, and also on Windows operating systems. I recommend you have it compile and run using makefile (such as was used when I was a student) but if your solution will be different then I will need to know how I can compile and run it on the different platforms on which I will use it. I will add a bonus if you can help me run the same code in a website that I host on my domain.
I have already finished the program years ago, so I am not seeking ways to cheat. But I was proud of that project and want to be able to still use it these many years later. I imagine if you use the code given by the course project description (same thing given to all students) and if I don't ask you to view any of my code then that condition also helps reduce anybody thinking I'm cheating. My idea is that if that code can compile on other Linux, Mac, and Windows machines then I should be able to plug in my coding and it would either work or only fail compilation with errors I create and not based on the GUI libraries.
The task given to the students was to add extra logic/code so that the game of chess may be played on that board, including turns, checks against illegal moves, stale mate and check mate. I already have that code because I finished the project. What I want to hire should make the base code compile and run, at which point all the rest of my code should not cause a problem if I plug it in and run it as well.
Because the class is still being taught at the university, you can see the project description and the download section online here [login to view URL]~cs240ta/spring2012/projects/chess/.
For Freelancer.com I projected the project budget as a "Simple Project" but if it turns out to be more then let me know.
I have been developing professional C/C++ software for Linux (mainly Ubuntu) for more than five years now, I have experience with cross platform GUI libraries such as wxWidgets.
