Hello,
I'm looking for a kind of application for language students. I'm asking them
to learn the names of things in pictures that I show them.
During the term they'll see pictures of things and hear and see the names of
them. Then I'll want to test to see how many names they remember.
With a hundred or so pictures' names to remember over the span of about a
month or so, I'd like to make a test in a sort of html format.
I'm thinking, if I can set a big picture up (jpeg or bmp) drawing lines from
each object in the picture(I think there's a photo application that does this,
or I can use paint) then I just need "slots" or places next to each picture
where a student can put the number of the word(the index of numbers next to
printed words can be on this page or another) next to the correct picture.
Finally, it would be a great thing to be able to make a program that "reads"
each student's completed page(html or other) and determines how many correct
numbers were placed.
This could also use many small pictures, but a big one is easier.
I'd appreciate, if anyone thinks they may have a solution for this, hearing
from you.

I add to this two other projects: it may be that to do all three will be more feasible than to do just one.
The second:
I would like to paste a rich text format text( 1 or 2 pages) into a program that would produce an output telling me:
1. the number of each kind of character used
2. the number of combinations of particular characters used(these are the phonemes of the English language- th, ph, etc.)
The third:
I would like to have a language test that can be an html webpage. It's not long, about a page and a half.
The idea is to have open text fields next to the questions so that students can type in the correct answers.
Then the big challenge I think, is to be able to have the program determine how many questions were answered correctly by each student and to print this number.
I'll look forward to hearing from anyone who has an idea for this.

I add to this that the attachment for first project is the three pictures.
The attachment "shrikumar2" is an example of the kind of rich text I would like to paste into
the ostensible program.
The attachment "grammar state test" is the test connected with the third project.
I want to stress, since many have written affirmatively, but please take note of these details
1/ for the first(picture) project, will the program give a score for each student, as to how many correct things he's identified? And also, importantly, CAN I USE THE SAME PROGRAM, PUTTING IN DIFFERENT PICTURES TO MAKE A DIFFERENT TEST?
2/ for the second project, will the computer print a concise analysis of each character and selected combinations for the pasted-in text?
3/ will the computer print me a score sheet of right vs wrong answers for each students' test?
I would also appreciate any opinion as to whether this all should be done on or off line.

S
I add to this:
I've asked three specific questions at the end of the description. I don't want to seem particular,
but not being a specialist in programming, I'm not sure how these things can be done or if they can be done.
I would appreciate, in your initial answer, if you would be specific, if you dont mind, on answering the three questions,
so that I know I won't be losing time if someone doesn't really have a plan on how it is to be done.
thank you,
S
