Hello all, I'm a high school history teacher at a school for student with learning differences and have an academic press book coming out (hopefully in 2018) that requires indexing. To get this done by a professional would cost me at least $1000, which I do not have. I'm looking into software options that may help or turning to someone who may be just getting started with their indexing careers. The manuscript is about public health and hygiene in late-19th century Mexico City and as of now, it is (with title page, acknowledgements, endnotes, bibliography) roughly 300 pages double-spaced in Word. A sample chapter is available upon request. I know indexing is something that happens at the later stages of this process, but I am trying to figure out how much this could cost to determine whether or not I will end up doing this myself. There is no specific timetable as of now. So I am not looking to hire immediately, just to get a price range built up.

Hi, I'm an experienced writer and researcher and also I'm looking forward to a career in academics itself. I understand a situation as of yours. A professional indexing here in India would cost around 300$ given the number of pages and speculating the amount of work based on that. However, I have an assistant(of course not exclusively for myself), more of a help who is very expert in handling the typing and formatting and things like that.
