Build an Online Store

Position: Graphic Designer/Website Designer We are searching for a candidate with superior graphic design abilities, secretarial skills, and interest in retail to join our communications and digital marketing team.  We are looking for a candidate with an eye and aptitude for storytelling to help us expand our market and connect with customers and followers as we build out and expand our network of lovers of all things Italian. We are in the launch phase of a new website that will integrate our four lines of business as well as working with outside consultants to develop and implement our social media strategy, and as we expand externally we need a supportive backbone.  Our digital marketing and communications team currently consists of a full-time person with strong skills in creating compelling written content, and an assistant who works on integrating this content within our website. We are searching for a candidate to compliment them by providing imagery that is as compelling as the words.  While we are a DC based retail operation, our mission is in providing and sharing experiences with our customers, both hands on and through a digital community.  In addition to our Georgetown retail store we operate a rental property in central Italy and organize periodic culinary, wine-related and cultural tours. Currently, we work with a design company out of Chicago that builds our website. Website maintenance is required, this includes uploading new products and images on a daily basis, and working in tandem with our company in Chicago and their developers in India. We would like to speak with you about our company and our vision and how you might fit with our ambitious plans.  Let us know if you are interested in speaking with us and your salary requirements. Base salary at $12 an hour, going up commiserate with experience.   Responsibilities include: Designing all promotional materials within the existing graphics guide of Via Umbria Printing and formatting all printed material in house (banners, gift cards, etc) Managing sales both online and in store through the back end inventory system Drafting copy for newsletters, menu’s, and informational cards Helping to manage and maintain [login to view URL] on a daily basis Working with our photographer to produce quality promotional images Managing passwords and security information for all accounts for Via Umbria Occasionally working special events, occasionally working the register or in retail if need be Working under a manager, and with a team of three others (logistics manager, secretary, copy writer) Must be willing to work on Saturdays. Schedule is approximately 11-7 Tuesday-Saturday, but as we are a small company we are flexible if need be. Requirements: Proficient using InDesign, the Adobe Suite, and Photoshop Understanding of CMS, able to code and update our website on a daily basis Understanding of printers and paper requirements to print fliers and cards in-house Batchelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, or Business Previous experience in a managerial or retail capacity preferred Love for Italian food, wine, and culture No transportation issues, able to get to Georgetown Driven, motivated, able to supervise onesself Strong leadership skills and original ideas You will be required to submit a resume, cover letter, and two references.
