Ecommerce Solution Using Oscommerce

SUMMARY The purpose of this project is to build an eCommerce website for selling all types of products. It will be built in a generic way to allow changes to several aspects of look and feel of the site. It will have an administrative area used for managing products, pricing, users, reporting and more, which will be detailed in a professional design spec that will be emailed to the successful candidate. The backend will be driven by OScommerce, an open-source shopping cart, which currently includes the majority of the required functionality. Additional features will need to be built into this shopping cart, which will be again detailed in the spec to follow. We are looking for someone who can design a website that is efficient, easy to use and with high quality graphic design for an online shop. The site should be user-friendly, easy to load for everyone using all sorts of browsers, in all countries and different Internet connections. The site will be written in PHP and use mySQL for the backend database. This is what OScommerce currently uses. Any other technical requirements as dictated by OScommerce would be adhered to including security protocols. The general look and feel of the front end will be based on [login to view URL] in that we want a clean, simple, professional looking site. There will be several components to the site that will be dynamic, such as banners and side menus. These will be controlled by the administrative pages. The product and category setup will be driven by OScommerce. The administrative section will allow an admin user to add, edit and remove products, categories and promotions. It will also contain utilities for managing user account and will extend on OScommerce’s existing reporting features. Generally, the categories will be displayed as a list on the left side of the site, each displaying their associated products. There will not be a limit for the number of products to be shown in any category. The administrative section will allow for displaying the products in any particular order and will also have the options of sorting by name or date added. IMPORTANT: The site should be built so it can essentially be packaged and sold as an ecommerce template in that a future. The average person should be able to open up their own online store with little or no technical experience and an online merchant account. Please note that this is a long-term project for us and should be assessed on the basis that when successful, we intend to expand it further. We have many additional projects similar in scale to this one when this is completed in a satisfactory manner. FRONT-END SHOPPING CART -Will be a clone of [login to view URL] in terms of the drag and drop feature. -This will be done with JavaScript and PHP. Maybe Ajax depending on browser capability. We are open to suggestions here. CHECKOUT - Will be a clone of [login to view URL] with a few extra functions that will be outlined in a detailed spec. - There will need to be a merchant account set up page in the admin section where the merchant account configuration occurs SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION -Need a list of search criteria that will lead to our site being at the top of the results in all popular search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask Jeeves…etc). Ex. T-shirt, purchase t-shirt, buy t-shirt…etc. -The site must be optimized for search engines, like having unique title tugs, h1/h2 tags, flat URLs with keywords in the URLs; CSS based design and W3C valid code. Your design of the site must be optimised for search engine crawlers to find and classify it easily.
