Hello, Based on your initial project description you need to develop web page search and rank algorithm. I suggest to develop an algorithm based on Pattern Recognition technicques, Neural networks and Bayesian networks. Basically the algorithm developed should be similar to any recognition algorithm. All items (here web pages) are going to have some features. Those features will be measured and organized in a vector. From the input of the search will be constructed another vector. That vector will be compared to every page found. From the comparison there will be calculated some rank and some probability of similarity. The most similar will be on top higher rank (lower number ) and less similar at the bottom of the list. This is a broad description of my idea. Suggest you to develop the search engine core based on apache lucene (java or c++ port or other). Face of engine can be made also on java or php.
