Hi there, Using fulltext index and boolean matching in MySQL is the way to do this. It would support all the operators you mentioned, that is: + must contain a word that follows - must not contain a word that follows * wildcard, match by part of word ~ similar to -, except it won't exclude rows that match the word that follows but will rate it lower than those not matching the word "" (double quotes) requires exact match All of them can be combined. I'm sure I wouldn't have any issues finding my way in the code, especially if the code is clean. I'd need to know the exact fields we would be matching against. As for making the results appear immediately - I would write the query /code efficiently so it will be as immediate as we can get with PHP/MySQL, should be under a second for 10k rows.
