Opis Konkursu

Need a portrait mode full-color artwork, drawing or illustration of a rescue for a book cover. The scene has to be very dramatic to capture a reader's interest to pick up the book to read.

It depicts a man in his late 20s/early 30s at an open window of a high-rise building (13th floor) in mid-winter. He's dressed in an off-white pin-stripe shirt with plain blue tie and grey/black work pants. On the snowy ground below are firemen holding an open sheet, ready to catch him when he jumps. No need to show any facial expressions, can instead be close-up of the man's back - dramatic rescue concept is the key message.

Book title (to be included in artwork) = 'When Spirits Beckon'

    Final update - the chosen artwork (with minor adjustments) has been uploaded for everyone to view at https://www.wattpad.com/story/317439527-when-spirits-beckon.

    Please note the factors which made this a winning entry:
    - Main focus was on the dramatic rescue (firemen)
    - Single spotlight showed the person being rescued (no distracting elements like extra spotlights, helicopters, etc. Also, these extra elements were NOT in the original book text, but some creative license was allowed
    - The title text was incorporated into the artwork (spotlight focus)
    - The title being positioned offset (left) made the whole image slightly unbalanced - resulting in many taking a 2nd or 3rd look as unconsciously disturbed by this imbalance. That's a good psychological ploy to get the book (artwork) noticed

    Thank you everyone for your hard work and creative contributions - the effort is very much appreciated. Unfortunately, my plan to award two of the entries as winners didn't work out as the other choice I had in mind has been withdrawn.

    In any case, I'd like to show my thanks to everyone who participated by letting you read the full novel at https://www.wattpad.com/myworks/317439527-when-spirits-beckon. There are 16 chapters in all, with the final batch to be published by Wednesday Aug 10 and access will be open till Aug 31 before potentially going behind a paywall.

    Do note that there will be another book cover contest coming up in a few weeks for Book 2 of this trilogy, with the title "While Angels Arise". For those keen to participate again, reading Book 1 will give you the background information as additional context to help you creatively for the next contest.

    Thank you all for your artwork submissions so far. Please note that I'm still looking for alternate options, if any are still to be created. What is missing would be the ground-level looking-up perspective - I imagine that would have presented the message of a dramatic rescue even better.

    Since the later submissions seem to all revolve around the same theme, I'm opening up the book text to help you wonderful people find better inspiration. The text is still being edited - the relevant chapter for this artwork is Chapter 10 (https://www.wattpad.com/1251311273-when-spirits-beckon-part-1-chapter-1).

    Illustration size is standard paperback book cover of 5.5" x 8.5". Your illustration should be double this size to allow for printing trims & enough pixel density. I would strongly recommend 2 versions - one with the title & one without. Thanks for all your efforts!
