Formatting rules for General Journal – Heading must contain name of business; Heading must contain words “General Journal; dates must be recorded; debit entries must be written first for all transactions; credit entries must be indented for all entries; each transaction must have a narration; each transaction must be underlined.

Formatting rules for General Ledger – Heading must contain name of business; Heading must contain words “General Ledger; Account names must be written for each account; dates must be recorded in each account; the left hand side is the debit side and the right hand side is the credit side; posting references are recorded; circle balances may be used for accounts; accounts must be in REALOe order.

Formatting rules for Trial Balance - Heading must contain name of business; Heading must contain words “Trial Balance as at”; Date must not be abbreviated in heading; Accounts must be listed in general ledger order (same as student’s ledger); Must contain Debit and Credit money columns; columns must have totals.
