change Search plugin on main site and subdomain

Please remove the Lijit search plugin, and please give your recommendation for a better search plugin. Then replace the Lijit search with the new search plugin on both sites and make sure it functions properly on both sites and doesn't cause any incompatibility problems.
Also please advise me if it is better to skip the search plugin and just use Wordpress default search.
