PHP MVC (CakePHP) interface for Javascript client

We have a project utilizing a javascript-based client, which reads information from the user's browser and reports it back to a PHP-based backend for tracking purposes. We need to evolve the cross-domain interface between the client and the server, where this communication can reliably happen. Currently only proof of concept code exists for this medium and this needs to fleshed out into a robust communication mechanism. The backend is created in CakePHP; please have experience with this framework if you are bidding.
