Write an essay of no less than 1,000 words. It should have three distinct parts, almost equally divided in terms of length. The first part should state your self-concept: how you identify yourself in terms of gender, ethnicity, religious preference or anything else you consider important for identifying yourself and your background. The second part should describe the area or areas of knowledge you find interesting, and you would probably build your professional career related to that area or areas. You need to state your detailed plans. And the third part should explain how you want to be successful in life and beneficial for other human beings vide the East-West University's mission of achieving excellence and providing service. In this part, you should focus on the quality of your life, both material well-being and psychological well-being. The work must be original, your own. Islamic beliefs and values concerning human dignity and worth, as also the modern socio-political concept of a welfare state, dictate that the foremost purpose of a government should be to better the quality of life of its individual citizens. Recent research into the meaning and implications of the quality of life issue indicate that adequate satisfaction of such physiological needs of an individual as food, sleep, clothing and shelter. light, air, water, sex, and a minimal stream of stimuli for the proper functioning of the human organism can only partially assure a better quality of life. Many developed nations claim that the satisfaction of such needs of their citizens is pretty well guaranteed at better than subsistence levels! The only-individuals in such nations who die of exposure, for instance, are those who are either adventuring or are victims of rare accident. However, even developed nations are becoming increasingly concerned with designing social policies and programs intended to improve the psychological well-being of their citizens. The obvious assumption is that material well-being is a necessary hut not a sufficient condition of the psychological well-being of the individual citizens.! The latter involves various dimensions of self-realization and self-fulfillment through achieving such states or conditions as: Health — better survival, longevity of life Meaningful activity — employment, work, accomplishment Freedom — range of options, correspondence in time between interests and activities, leisure Security — stability, freedom from threat, safety, peace of mind Novelty — variety, stimulation, excitement, recreation, richness of experience Status — influence, social "‘handing, dominance, power, aspect, self-esteem Sociality — affection, participation, mutuality of response, friendship, love, belongingness Consumption — affluence, pleasure, comfort, income, good things, and the future manifest hope, optimism, ambition, and aspiration level.
