After Effects template - allow me to change text in comp using XML file

I have an After Effects file with a text layer. I have saved the AE file as an .aepx file (xml file). I can search for and change the *name* of the text layer in the XML file, but not the text *content* of that layer shown in the final video. For example, the layer name is "Text Layer", and the text shown in the video is "Contact us now!" I can already see how to change the layer name in the XML file by searching for the layer name and replacing it. In the example above, I simply search for "Text Layer" and replace it with something else like "New Name". When I load the file in AE, I can see the layer name has changed to "New Name". But the layer content, "Contact us now!" in the example above, is represented by binary code in the XML file. Instead of seeing the words "Contact us now!", I see programming code. I need to be able to replace the layer content, such as "Contact us now!" in the example above, with some other text of my choosing. I will be writing a script to make the replacement automatic, so I need to be able to search and replace the text in the XML file, or some similar solution, without having to open AE and load the AE file.
