I have 17 years of experience in C programming for windows desktop application building as well as for embedded programming. I will suggest you to go with PIC micro controller rather than arduino because of two simple reason. PIC will be less costly than the complete arduino board and PIC works with HID communication. This HID communication will allow the windows computer to detect the device without any driver installed. It will literally be detected by any computer like Mac, Linux, Windows or any other operating systems, but I will be able to provide support only for the windows. What kind of LCD would it be that you plan to use with this arrangement ?

Hi, I have a long experience in hardware and software product design. I have used Arduino in many of my projects (in freelancer) and outside. I have an Arduino board and LCD display Nokia 5510 LCD (similar to screen of old Nokia phone), I can use that to implement the code and sent to you. I have also used 16x2 and 8x2 LCD screens interfaced with Arduino -- Please have a look at my completed Arduino projects on freelancer... Hi, I have done several projects using Arduino/Raspberry pi hardware. I have written complex C codes for Arduino that you can find out from my profile. Showing a text on LCD is a simple one, arduino is having built-in library for LCD display like 16x2 interface with standard connection. I believe you already have code to send the text to serial port so that it will be displayed on PC. I have Arduino Uno board with me. If this project is awarded to me, I will buy a LCD display and LCD displays are using common interface. So you can buy similar LCD display in your local market. Please correct me if my understanding about this requirement is not correct. Thanks!

Hello, I can help you with this surely. I've done similar interfacing and programming where communication goes from Computer to Arduino to LCD and reverse. I used I2C LCD's from a UK vendor I think, I can provide you with the link. There are some doubts: 1. How is the 4 digit code generated at arduino side? Is it some random no.? 2. What do you mean by "controller will output a 4 digit code to a text file (or input field)"? I don;t think arduino can write a file directly on to a computer. Though ti can send the data to computer which can be saved as a file using some application. 3. Pls. clarify your statement "Hit enter after entering the 4 digit code.". Is the code generated at arduino's end or entered on compute? I've several arduino boards with me. I suggest using Arduino Uno which will serve your purpose. I2C LCD you can use same as mine. I did not fully understand the part about the controller going from 0000 to 9999.
