First, there will be an extensive research on micro-porous materials (membranes) and their use in the Oil and Gas industry, in regards to separation techniques. Specific types will be identified and assessed in regards to their mass flow properties. Secondly, literature on mass transfer mechanics will be researched thoroughly. More to the point, where assessed as applicable, mathematical equations that describe said mechanics will be compiled, correlated and illustrated using MS Excel. Finally, a detailed mathematical model of mass flow will be composed, in order to describe the mass transfer mechanics in regards to the chosen material types. A problem that may arise is the lack of mathematical data related to the specific materials that will be chosen. Furthermore, it may be difficult to correlate standard mass transfer equations to the relatively advanced modern materials used for the manufacturing of membranes. Lastly, it is important that the mathematical model which will be created applies to commercially viable membrane options.
