Good evening,
I am a former journalist and marketing specialist with more than fifteen years of experience writing, editing and proofreading. As a freelancer, I have edited the gamut of material, from academic papers to cookbooks, as well as an extensive range of genres, from non-fiction to contemporary and young adult fiction. I am from the US but have edited many documents utilizing UK English, including two doctoral theses.
In my opinion, there are few things more frustrating than reading a great book that has grammar issues. The writer in me is disappointed knowing how much work goes into a novel; my editor self rails at the manuscript's proofreader for allowing mistakes to slip through. It is an honor, but a considerable responsibility, to be trusted to smooth out a manuscript that an author has worked so hard to generate.
My peers and coworkers appreciate my candor and honest feedback in any given situation. The perfectionist in me ensures no problems slip under the radar. When one combines these qualities with how much I enjoy fixing grammar and punctuation issues, I am an editorial force to be reckoned with.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or would like to see any examples of my editing. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Mariah Patterson
