Hello, I am an expert Microsoft Excel, Access, and SharePoint developer, having developed custom applications for small and large businesses for over ten years, including biotech industry giants Genentech and Bayer Healthcare.
For your project I would recommend an Access database, which would allow concurrent users/data entry, something that could be a problem with just Excel. An Access database would allow multiple users to log in and use the application simultaneously.
If you want to take a step further, I would suggest a SharePoint application, which could easily be deployed to your existing SharePoint site if you have one, or created on a new site hosted by Microsoft through Office 365. The SharePoint site offers the additional advantage of being accessible via web browser, anywhere in the world with an internet connection.
