Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you for your kind emails about my story. I wrote this story over the weekend after speaking with a young student who I had the honor to teach. At the time, he had lost his father to a cancer and was struggling to navigate his way through life's tough stuff. This past Friday, he called me to tell me he gained admission into a prestigious college prepatory school in the States. Teacher-win, yet, but Student-win more importantly.
Over the past few weeks, I have watched my young learners at SAS also grapple with their feelings. Perhaps not as intensely, but certainly in ways that felt just as real and as important. Today, during our celebration, we had the chance to celebrate each other - not just as writers but as young beings traversing through our preadolescent lessons.
To the young ones, I thank you for sharing your many layers. In the pages of your stories, I see the enthusiastic, fun, compassionate, and talented beings I have the privilege to teach every day. To the adults who not only acknowledge, but also validate and support our young one's journeys, I thank you for making my job so much easier with your powerful parenting.
I am so incredibly honored and excited for the learning and sharing that awaits us.

We often hear it said that doing good and being good are our primary responsibilities in life. Agreement there would most certainly be since cheerfulness in thought, word and action gives rise to positive attitudes.
