Communication and Media Research

There are three different research reports, choose ONE of them. Based on the selected research report, you will write a 1500-word (+/- 10%) analytical evaluation of the methodology employed in the research. Some of the questions that may guide your analysis include the following: 1. How did the researchers collect the data? What were the sampling methods used? 2. What were the types of data collected? Are these data appropriate for the purpose of the research? Can you think of other types of data that could have been used? 3. Is the research design appropriate for the purpose of the research? What are its strengths and weaknesses? Do these affect the quality of the research in any way? 4. Were the data appropriately analysed and interpreted? Do the findings match the data? Have legitimate conclusions been drawn ? To be adequately prepared for this assessment item, you will need to have a through understanding of the research designs, methods and techniques covered in this unit thus far. You should also be able to use appropriate terms in your analysis. Remember that your report should not be a summary of the article. It should be an analytical evaluation of the research methodology. Your report should be typed in Times New Roman 12pt double-spaced and saved as an MS-Word document. Please note below information: • Evidence of understanding of research methodologies, methods and techniques; • Knowledge of the application of methodologies, methods and research design; • Evidence of critical awareness of the strengths and limitations of research design; and • Ability to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a research report. Note • Keep in mind that the paper should not be a summary of the article but an analytical evaluation of the methodology.
