Here is a detailed description as to what we are looking for.
We are looking for software that will load onto a PC running Windows XP. This software will be used to scan a barcode of a DVD or CD and bring up the media’s information and play the desired media. We would prefer a GUI which displays data from a database located on either a local or networked hard drive. I would like this GUI to be “skinned enabled?? so that we can change the look if need be. As for what database format, we will leave that up to you as we do not have great experience with databases, so it’s a component that can be explored. We do however want to be able to use convential methods of data entry.
As for media playback, we would like a seamless launch but if it is too complex or many additional hours worth of development would be needed, we could if need be settle on integrating other major playback methods ie. Windows Media Player. Also, when content is playing and another barcode is scanned we would like the current playback to stop or preferably fade then bring up the new information and start the new playback. Finally, if possible we would like to have a screen saver built in where we could have random music or movie’s playing when the unit is not in use, again if possible being able to fade out then launch the new information.
Ideal Usage Scenario:
I have several DVD’s which are databased in my computer complete with DVD picture cover and write-up. With my barcode scanner connected to my PC I take a DVD from my collection and scan the barcode. The current screensaver movie stops playing and fades out and the DVD information from the DVD I just scanned comes up onto the display. Now I can see the cover of the DVD along with the write-up of the DVD. I also see a button that says “PLAY MOVIE??. I can either click it with my mouse or if I have a touch screen monitor touch the “PLAY MOVIE?? button and the movie will start to play. After the movie is finished it goes back to the information page displaying the DVD cover and information. I’m finished with the software for now and leave it sit idle for 5 minutes and the screensaver movie starts to play again.
