My team has DBAs and SDEs who are proficient in dealing with database design, implementation, migration and maintenance. Looking at the project description you've provided, "database based project to link up with an existing database", it is not very clear to me what the ask here is. Are you looking for database migration? Are you looking to hook up a new database to your existing application and have it work with both databases? I'd really appreciate it if you could please provide bit more specifics about the work involved.
