I am located in the Orange County, California and have a BS in Accounting and an MBA. I am a certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor. My cloud accounting business is taking on a few new clients at below market rates with the hope that positive reviews and referrals will be received. In reading your scenario, a couple items caught my attention: Multi-state returns will require that you know which state the income is related to, for how long, and which deductions will go with that state. In many cases, this information will not agree with W2's and 1099's. There are work arounds, but it must be supported by the facts. The IRS is not interested in which state your income comes from, they tax your global income. I move most of my clients into LLCs or corporations early on. Filing a separate tax return for the entities reduces your individual audit risk. You must keep decent records or use an accounting system supported by the receipts. I strongly suggest you consider Delaware for your new company. I have access to affordable services to help. Delaware protects like no other state.
