Fragility of life
Today our counselling teacher let us watch a video concerning the accident of Japan Airlines Flight 123 in the year 1985. The video started off with the passengers happily biding goodbye to their families and friends at the airport, expecting this flight to be like any other flights. After that the video showed the passengers boarding the plane, and then being seated. Some of them were chatting with ease, some of them preparing to sleep for the whole flight, and finally the plane lifted off. Twelve minutes later, disaster struck.
I can see the looks on the passenger's faces as clearly as though I was there with them as the plane's tail was damaged. There was a huge jolt as the plane lost control and began its descent, the longest 32 minutes of the passengers' life. Their faces showed panic, praying to God even though they knew in their hearts that it was futile. Passengers who had pencils and papers scribbled their last words to their loved ones furiously. Others frantically grabbed for the oxygen masks as loss of cabin pressure at high altitude caused a lack of oxygen throughout. The pilot desperately punched at the consoles, his face a mask of despair. And the plane, falling, oblivious to the turmoil within.
