Yes, you can create QR codes off strings, so you can generate QR codes off strings such as "ACBAAS" etc. And when the code is scanned, you can take the scanned string to accordingly play audio to the app. The concern is - who will have the authority to create/generate QR code image? Web application or Mobile application? Most QR code readers have a built in browser(i.e. Web application) which they use to display web pages, and in this case presumably, audios. The problem is most likely with this built in browser, therefore when you use the QR code to play the audio on the iPhone(although Android is working fine) the sound may not be worked. Depending on the reader, it will probably have an option to open the URL in Safari instead. I would bet that if you did so, the audio would have sound. Other hand, you can generate an image with QR code from a string from mobile app, since iOS and Android ecosystem with AVFoundation & Zxing now fully supports generating almost every QR code over EAN to UPC. Anyway, before started I would like to provide you with a complimentary demo application on iOS/Android, that's overview you want in the proposal. In fine, all we need to do is create a QR image instance for every music file, that your app want to play. I worked on a similar project this past summer. Due to NDA with client, currently I am unable to share the APP details with you. However, I am sure, we need to use any one of the two above approaches.
