I just created a image uploader on my last project where a user has a possibility to upload photos of his or hers products. I totally understand the requirements. There would be a lot of frontend work because of the massive amount of images that needs to be uploaded. I would handle this with javascript and mainly using jQuery. The solution would be get the users photos by normal web upload form and then one by one upload them to the servers endpoint.
