1. Description
You have been commissioned to create a prototype e-commerce web application for eCoRentals, an e-commerce startup offering film and video game rental across all platforms. The web site is to be implemented in ASP.NET. All of the tags, with the exception of the <div>, should where possible be aspx tags. The core functionality offered to members should be what you would reasonably expect from this type of application with regards to searching, browsing, etc., plus whatever else you think you would like to see implemented – you should look at existing applications and get a feel for what is typically, or untypically, on offer.
Note that you are creating a prototype – design considerations such as look and feel and jQuery animations are for the moment less important than the correct implementation of the applications core functionality.
2. Deliverables
a) An ASP.NET web application as per the specification detailed below.
b) A report detailing how you achieved it.
3. Using AJAX
Credit will be given for the correct use of AJAX where appropriate.
4. Programming
All of your code should be fully commented and efficient, i.e., lengthy if..elseif...elseif constructions should be avoided and loops and arrays should be used to traverse and iterate over collections of elements.
5. Specific Requirements
4.1. Data Storage. You will be required to create a database called eCoRentals and appropriate tables in the project's App_Data folder. You should install the .NET membership schema into this database.
4.2. Authorisation. You should create the appropriate user roles bearing in mind the legal requirements regarding age affecting film and video-game rental. User roles should be implemented using ASP.NET Membership.
4.4. Web Site Architecture. The eCoRentals web site should use Master Pages where appropriate.
4.5. Payment. You should simulate payment as far as this is possible.
4.6. Authentication. To be implemented using .NET membership. You may use the .NET login widget or you can decide to use your own log in form if you think this approach will allow for better 'look and feel' compliance across the web site pages.
4.7. User Profiles. Members should be able view and edit their profiles, the extent to which to be decided by you.
4.8. Validation. All input fields should be validated as appropriate.
4.9. Administrator Tasks. The site administrators should be able to view, update, and delete member's details. They should be able to search the database and generate some basic reports based on rental data and revenue generated. Note that the clients have been a bit sketchy with details on which reports should be generated so you should come up with your own suggestions which you should be able to demonstrate.
4.10. User Searching and Browsing. Members should be able to search for a particular movie or game for a specific platform and be able to browse what’s on offer – browsing criteria to be determined by you.
