Pardon my lack of knowledge of technological terms-- but hopefully I can explain what I want below.
The major travel websites are useful for searching for airfares one-by-one, but they are not very helpful for someone such as myself, who would like to search dozens of possible airfares each day to determine the lowest airfare in several markets.
Here's what I'm looking interested in:
I want a program that will:
--use a pre-defined (but changeable) list of city pairs [e.g., San Francisco (SFO) - Newark (EWR)]
--plug them into the air fare search pages on Expedia and Travelocity
--output the lowest roundtrip fares for each city pair
For example:
I supply a list of airport codes:
ORIGINATION, DESTINATION
SFO, EWR
SFO, DTW
SFO, MIA
DTW, LHR
etc...
And the (hypothetical) output for each web site would be something like this:
Travelocity
ORIGINATION,DESTINATION
SFO,EWR,$400
SFO,DTW,$198
SFO MIA,$298
DTW,LHR,$445
etc...
Expedia
ORIGINATION,DESTINATION
SFO,EWR,$400
SFO,DTW,$198
SFO MIA,$298
DTW,LHR,$445
etc...
(Note: The fares are almost always the same for the two web sites, but sometimes there are big discrepancies -- hence querying both sites.)
Other notes:
--The output doesn't need to be pretty.
--Airline name isn't needed.
--I _do not_ need availability information.
--I would like to be able to run this anytime, and to add or change cities.
