The details are below-: A mixture of benzene, air and hydrochloric acid is fed to a chlorination reactor (R1) producing monochlorobenzene (MCB) as the primary product and 1,2 dichlorobenzene (DCB) as a side product. The reactor operates continuously with a 10% conversion per pass of benzene while 1% of the benzene converted per pass combusts. The reactor operates isothermally at 250°C with all reactants entering at the reactor temperature. The hot reactor products pass to a boiler wherein they are used to boil water to produce dry saturated steam at 100°C all of which is fed to a heat exchanger which preheats recycled hydrochloric acid on route to R1. The cooled reactor products exit the boiler at 140°C and immediately pass to a second heat exchange unit which further cools the process stream to 40°C prior to discharge into a vented vessel which allows non-condensable species to exit the process. The process operates at steady state, the levels in the buffer (holding) tanks do not change under normal operating conditions and all pressures are approximately 1 bar absolute. Benzene and hydrochloric acid (5 wt%) are available from separate storage facilities to feed the process as required. Process conditions are such that no HCl gas leaves the chlorination unit, hydrogen gas does not appear in the process, discharge to drain must not exceed 750 kg/hour, the molar feed ratio (steam/MCB) for the hydrolysis unit is 3 and the R1 air/benzene mixed feed molar ratio is 1. I need to work out the energy balance for the boiler and then this what needs to be done further-: For the boiler, you should report with supporting calculation the energy flows corresponding to all streams entering and leaving the exchanger leading to calculation of the overall duty of the heat exchanger H2 (in kW) and the water flowrate required (assume that the water is supplied at 20°C). The material balance and process flow are attached.
