This should be a relatively easy project for a good Perl programmer.
We have an existing Perl script that connects to [login to view URL]'s XML interface.
We need to add a few extra parameters to the script that checks for availability.
Currently we check for an available quantity of rooms.
We want to give users the option to say precisely how many rooms they want and who will be in them e.g. 2 adults, 1 child age 4 and another child age 1.
You can see the functionality we're looking for by going to [login to view URL]
We want to offer the pre-selected values as per their site e.g. 1 adult, 0 children etc
We also want to be be able to accept the values that appear after selecting the Families with children option (or More options) from the drop down.
That then brings up 4 drop down boxes to allow the site user to select number of rooms, number of adults, number of children and, if appropriate, the ages of the children. If there are children selected then their age(s) need to be entered.
You will need to create a very simple form (you can base it on the [login to view URL] form) that accepts the data including town and date of stay (we'll provide you with access to a test form we've got designed where you can find the values that need to be sent) - we'll use this on our site but will do all the styling, etc ourselves.
The form needs to work in a very similar fashion to the [login to view URL] form - you can examine their HTML source code as you would any regular web page.
The values then need to be interpreted by the Perl script and also allow for users not entering any details (which should work as our current script does - send us a private message to see the current site).
Our current script parses the number of single, double and triple (family) rooms in a variable called rooms and copes with multiple rooms - your new script needs to replace this with the values from the drop down boxes - either preselected or from drop downs
We originally thought it was only one section of the code that needs changing but we've since been told that it's a lot more interlinked than that.
You will need to declare your own (sensibly named) variables to deal with the changes and you will need to write clean, well documented, code to handle everything.
Other notes:
=========
We've attached a spreadsheet with details of the various modules and the [login to view URL] documentation for the extra values we'd like passed.
Our site is live - you will be given access to a very small portion of our server which holds the Perl modules that are attached to this project but you will not have any other access. You can test by using a file on your local or development machine by using a "base href" tag. This will then deliver a set of results that has lots of debugging information switched on so that you can check whether or not your code is working as anticipated.
The [login to view URL] documentation is in a password protected area. You will not have access to this but we will supply any documentation needed via private message. There is already some in the spreadsheet - that will give you an idea of the standard of their documentation.
As described above, you will need to create a very simple test form in HTML. This will need to include the relevant names for the form elements to match your code.
You must also provide us with details of the changes you've made - we will not try to out guess you on this, you will need to keep us informed!
