I need a Linux (Ubuntu) based BASH script to continuously process files in a directory. I am using tcpflow to dump specific session files out of a pcap stream and into files in the same folder. In the folder, the files come in, get processed by my script, and moved/compressed in another folder. This processing consists of reading the file, gathering specific data and logging it into a log file. Because the log file continues to grow as each file is processed, I need to periodically stop and begin writing to a new log file under a different name. What I need is a time-based loop to write the data to a log file for say, 30 minutes and then it stops and begins to write to a new log file. The log files might look like: log-20160106-0400 log-20160106-0430 log-20160106-0500 This script needs to run until stopped (ctrl-c). I seem to think of it as a time-based loop nested inside of an infinite loop. I have the main part of the script finished, I just need the loops, or processes to call everything. I would like to do this all in one script if possible.
