Hi, I've never used Azure, but I have lots of experience with MySQL. SQL is the same with any DB you choose those (SQL databases of course) - there's usually only one or two additional functions available depending on the variant you use. Anyway, if your queries are slow then it could be due bad indexing, or just having a table joined with the result of a query (which leads to massive slow down because all indexing is lost in the sub-query). Depending on the structure of the data and primary keys you can sometimes horizontally partition your table - so if you know a priori that the data you need is held within a certain range of primary keys (e.g. corresponding to a particular year) then you don't have to query the whole data, only the relevant partition. By the way I'm also in the same time-zone as you so shouldn't be hard to get a hold of if you need help working out a query. Thanks a lot, John
