The WordPress site can be upgraded to php 7. (Is your server supports php 7?) To follow an extra precaution we can download the site and install the same in our local server which has php 7 and mysql 5.6 version. We can test the site for its functionality in local system and upgrade the server to php 7 as well. To force the ssl to work on the main and subdomain. To upgrade the site to a new theme and check all the existing functionality are working okay.(This can eb done in the local system first and then uploaded to the server). To remove unwanted old files and databases. To create a staging environment for test purposes on the server. We can suggest improvements to the site after analyzing the site.
