XML database (USPTO Trademark Daily / Back Files) to MYSQL + Automated Update Program

Goal: Create a small server side application to rebuild USPTO trademark database from zipped XML files and maintain record changes daily via XML files. The XML files I need to work with are all hosted here: [login to view URL] That's the entire trademark database since it started, plus daily update files. I assume they need to be loaded in order from oldest to newest to build the database correctly. USPTO documentation about the XML files: [login to view URL] (scroll to the bottom and look for "Daily Applications" section) It appears every nested table in the XML document could become it's own table and probably should if we want to normalize the data, but I don't know how crazy we should be with that. I aim for the most powerful search flexibility I can get. I'm open to suggestions on how to approach this. I would prefer a basic update interface. Just a simple button to click that will start the update process and some indication of success. I plan to use either Base or Access for the front end to create forms, etc... to manipulate the data. I prefer Ubuntu Server since I'm most comfortable with linux servers.
